Wednesday will be an important day for Jews

Wednesday, May 15, is a time when many faiths/doctrines come together to share the same important High Day.

To the Jews, it is Shavuot (Feast of Weeks), a date set in Leviticus 23 honoring the giving of the Law from Mt. Sinai. Most believers honor this date as the outpouring of the Holy Spirit/Pentecost. To Messianics, it is the celebration of the giving of the Law and Holy Spirit. Pentecost means 50, and Shavuot is 50 days (seven weeks, plus a Shabbat) after Passover.

This date acknowledges the giving of the Law, Messiah as our Passover Lamb and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, another wonderful godly coincidence.

Paul records in Acts 1:3 that our Savior was seen and gave "convincing proofs" that He was alive after His resurrection before His ascension. At one of these gatherings, He instructed them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit coming in a "few days."

When the High Day of Shavuot arrived 10 days later, Acts 2 records 120 Jewish believers were gathered in one place when there came a "rushing" of a violent wind that filled the whole house where they were sitting and they became empowered from heaven, speaking in different tongues/languages.

Jews from every nation heard the witness in their own languages and began asking what it meant, supposing they were drunk at 9 a.m. Peter explained, giving them Joel's prophecy of the "last days" and declaring again to them the witness of Messiah, whom they crucified.

Our Lord made the Holy Spirit available to all believers "who will ask the Father" for a greater comfort/direction in times of testing and a deeper understanding of His Word (Luke 11:13).

James 4:2 says, "Ye have not, because ye ask not." Let us seek a greater portion of His direction, strength and comfort in the times ahead that precede His coming.
