Becoming an atheist is a ‘sad’ story

News-Sentinel staff writer Ross Farrow's (Sept. 1) article, "Author explains why she became atheist," was a sad story. It announced the book "Religion Made Me Fat," by AmyJo Mattheis, which documents her fall from Christianity into atheism.

It seems there is no end to what people won't do for attention or to sell a book.

It is particularly disappointing to see someone besmirch the cause of Christ like this, almost like the Judas kiss. It is with my honest sorrow and heartfelt condolences, empathy and sympathy to the Mattheis and Holmquist families for the atheism of their daughter, wife and mother.

Religion is one thing, but the gospel of Christ Jesus is another. The gospel is the way, the truth and the life of Jesus Christ, the creator of all things Emmanuel, the Son of God.

Religion is what we get when Christ is left out. When the spirit has departed, all that's left is churchianity and religiosity (Icahbod). Indeed, religion can be fattening and blinding, and it can make us stupid, too. Evidence our whole globe infected with Godlessness and lawlessness.

The rejection of the Gospel of Christ is a very serious and dangerous decision with eternal consequences, and eternity is a very long time.

I pray for your reconsideration and for peace in Jerusalem.

    Just a word from me-

Condolences and sympathy upon Atheism is awfully condescending. It's no more welcome than anyone taking any position in life whatsoever. Please avoid throwing pity on those who do not welcome it.

It appears that Mr. Fields did not take the time to read AmyJo Mattheis's book, or he would know that she is in fact very much enamored with Jesus and considers his teachings to be positive and uplifting.

If anything, Jesus is all that remains of the religion she was taught. As an atheist, I find HER message to be positive and uplifting for the millions of other atheists out there who no longer believe in God.

And if Mr. Fields would care to read her book, I will gladly get him a copy.
