We are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God had from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:13).

If there were no other text in the sacred word except this one, I think we should all be bound to receive and acknowledge the truthfulness of the great and glorious doctrine of God's ancient choice of his family.

The sovereignty of God is not our enemy. Our problem? We minimize Christ and maximize man. God has chosen to do something for you that you cannot do for yourself. God declared in the New and Old Testament (Psalm 14:2-3) that there is none righteous, there is none understanding and there is none seeking for God that includes me and you, even if you are a preacher.

These same statements are repeated by Paul in (Romans 3:10-11). Had God not chosen us, we all would have to answer for our sins.

God chooses us, not because He foresees that we would choose Him or believe, but for the very opposite reason. He chooses us because He foresees that we would neither choose Him nor believe of ourselves.

Election proceeds not on foreseen faith in us, but on foreseen unbelief. Roman 8:29 Is not teaching that God knew who would accept Him. He makes it clear that there is none that are seeking for God.

Unfortunately, these great and glorious doctrines are no longer taught in most churches today. The church of today is so much as the world of today. But God insists that He is the potter and we are the clay. Unless He molds us, we get harder and harder.

For it is God which worked in you both to will and do of his good pleasure. May God help us not to be wiser than God and rob Him of his Glory. We won't get away with it.
