The old Testament points to this extraordinary work of God; and the new Testament reveals it in clear, unambiguous detail. Before the foundation of the World, God the Father loved His people. He purposed to redeem His people by appointing His eternal Son to be their Surety and Substitute.
As their Prophet, Priest and King, Jesus Christ the God-man was born of a virgin and grew to manhood. Jesus was tried, tortured and nailed to Calvary's cross. Suspended between heaven and earth, mocked by His enemies and judged by His holy, heavenly Father as an unclean thing, He endured all His Father's wrath for all the sins of His people for all eternity. When by the grace of God a sinner repents and believes in Christ, he receives the full and free forgiveness of all his sin, and will become a new creature in Christ that is the new birth the work of the Holy Ghost.
What is the only acceptable sacrifice that God receives on behalf of sinners? What is the only thing that has turned away God's wrath and fury for the believers sins? What is the only hope that our sins can never rule us or damn us again? What is the only thing that will quiet the sin-stained conscience and bring real peace to the sin-troubled soul? Christ on the Cross. Is this your heart's treasure? No greater exists.
Having fuzzy, foggy, nondescript notions of Jesus dying for our sins rarely brings home the power of the gospel to our souls or the holy force that humbles us before the living God in repentance and faith in His only begotten son. We need a clear, biblical vision of Christ upon the cross to draw us out of darkness and into the everlasting light of a pardoning God.
May the Christ upon the Cross bring peace to your soul, joy to your heart and worship to your lips, now and for eternity. May Jesus Christ upon Calvary's cross, raised again the third day, ascended into glory and seated at the Father's right hand forever be your heart's greatest treasure, as we look into the horizon to His coming again.
