A recent conversation with a much younger man left me reminded that my biblical worldview is rigid and "out of touch," and my perspective on life lacks credibility and reason.

Some rather harsh adjectives like "eccentric," "stodgy" and "intolerant" still ring in my ears, but it was "old fool" that hurt my feelings.

Christ Jesus said He came to divide, and His birth, death and resurrection certainly does that. Indeed, the truth of Christ is the "great divider." His word is called sharper than a two-edged sword that cuts and rightly divides to the marrow of our bone.

It is written, and we can plainly see, that the world is composed of many divisions — male and female, Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, believer and non-believer, lost and found. We all fit into various categories, but the one common category we all fit into is the category of "sinner."

Scripture teaches (John 3:16) that "God so loves the world that He gave His only begotten Son and whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

If this is true, wouldn't we be foolish not to accept the truth of that promise? Likewise, Christ Jesus teaches that we must be born again (John 3:1-13), not reborn through our parents' flesh, but through the spirit of God.

Jesus' words are pointed and sharp, exclusive and clear, and deeply divisive — "Truly, truly I say to you, except a man be born again, He cannot see the kingdom of God," and again in verses 5 and 7.

Are these words intolerant? Yes, intolerant of unbelief. Are these words exclusive? Yes, exclusively inclusive of all believers. Are these words narrow and pointed? Yes, pointed at the straight gate of salvation. Are these words divisive? Yes, they leave no room for fence sitting; we are forced to choose. Are these words true? Only if God said, "Know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

I'm surprised at William Van Amber Fields usually he is right on point!

This is a couple of statements from this article: First; "If this is true, wouldn't we be foolish not to accept the truth of that promise?" Second; "Are these words divisive? Yes, they leave no room for fence sitting; we are forced to choose."

For both statements, God does the choosing, we (sinners) cannot choose anyone or accept anything without the providence of God! God choses those for salvation not the other way around! We do NOT provide anything toward our salvation (with the exception of sin) god does all the saving and then keeps us to the end, to be glorified through Jesus Christ in him!

Let me make this very clear: We were born into sin, we come from the womb speaking lies, we are dead (spiritually) in our trespasses and sins! What can a dead man do? Nothing! Unless, God reaches down and changes our sinful nature, in fact changing our hearts from stone to flesh and making us alive in him! And for the "first time" able to hear the truth of God!

Don't get it mixed up, God said "You did not choose me but I choose you! No one can come to me unless the father who sent me "draw" him....
