Gay couples should enjoy legal rights, not marriage

The controversy over “same-sex” marriage could be solved so easily that I wonder why it hasn’t already been done.

Marriage was not created by man. Jesus clarifies it clearly in Matthew 19:4-5: “Have you not read that he that made them at the beginning made them male and female? And said, for this cause, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be one flesh.”

Our government should establish a “lifemate” union for same-sex couples that grants them all the rights of opposite-sex unions. It should be legally binding and could only be dissolved by divorce.

Same-sex couple could have a pre-”lifemate” ceremony, announcements, showers, etc., the whole nine yards. As lavish a ceremony, likewise.

No, they would not be husband and wife, since that is physically impossible. They would refer to each other as “my lifemate.” They would be accepted as such in business dealings as well as in general society.

All citizens have a legal right to choose who they want to live with, but absolutely no one has a right to rewrite God’s Word.

God states, “Man and woman.”

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
