Your printing of the AP article about the risk of meteors slamming onto Earth (News-Sentinel, Nov. 7) reignited a conversation with a friend concerning “Chelyabinsk,” the meteor that exploded over Russia last year.

At the time, I called that event an omen or portentous warning. My buddy laughed and questioned if I really believed that. I do, and I told him why.

He said he couldn’t believe a loving, caring God would use the force of natural phenomena as a disciplinary or lesson tool for mankind’s benefit. I reminded him of the cataclysmic deluge, Sodom and Gomorrah and Christ’s own death penalty on the propitiatory cross, but he wasn’t persuaded.

My friend said that the only way he would be convinced of a meteor strike being of divine will and cause would be if the meteor exploded in our atmosphere like a “cluster” bomb, and the space rocks would, like guided drones, precisely hit certain targets like Planned Parenthood murder mills and surgically excise them without any collateral damage.

Certainly, God could pull that off if He wanted, but God’s ways are not our ways. However, there is some interesting prophecy in the Book of Revelation that says He will use natural phenomena to accomplish His will (Revelation 6:13-14, 8:7-12, 18:21; and II Peter 3:10-13.

Wow, shows the complete and utter male ego/ female domination some need to feel. "Cows" refered to were COWS. the HINE of Bashan. From a commentary on the issue: "They are compared to the kine of Bashan, which were a breed of cattle very large and strong, especially if, bred there, they were fed upon the mountain of Samaria, where the pastures were extraordinarily fat. Amos had been a herdsman, and he speaks in a dialect of his calling, comparing the rich and great men, that lived in luxury and wantonness, to the kine of Bashan, which were wanton and unruly, would not be kept within the bounds of their own pasture"

This from the book of Amos, "1 Hear this word, you cows (women) of Bashan (easy place to live) on Mount Samaria, (Capital of Northern Israel or today's Capital Hill)
you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy
and say to your husbands, “Bring us some drinks!”
After listing several types of tragedy's which hit the nation there is this warning..."12“Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel,
and because I will do this to you, Israel,
    prepare to meet your God.”

So I'll take this as a warning to the USA that we'd better get right with our God in cleaning up this country with all the corruption, violence and general lawlessness which takes place every day. God does use natural phenomenon to draw our attention to the evil in our land. People just like to say, "It's normal!"

Read the story in Judges 19 and get a picture of the outrage of the Israel People over just one rape and murder. The Tribe of Benjamin was almost completely destroyed because of it.
