Letter: Written testimony from a dying woman

Several years ago, I went on four short-term mission trips to Europe and South America, we handed out gospel tracts on the street or at metro stations. Also, we went to the prisons in those countries, prisoners got a Bible and a message from the Word. On these trips, I met Wilma Warta. Her life was a living testimony of her love for her Savior. Wilma went to be with her Lord in 2013, and this is her written testimony she left for us:

Letter: Everyone is invited to RSVP with the Lord

Eternity awaits us all, in one way or another, and so does the invitation to spend it with our Creator. The gospel of Christ Jesus is that formal invitation, and it has an RSVP. Everyone is invited, and everyone must RSVP ... no reply is a reply.

Letter: Catholics should hold onto original traditions

There is a Protestant on television who attacks the present Pope as favoring Muslims; he separated him from the two previous popes which he likes. First and foremost, history doesn’t operate in a vacuum. Apostasy exists because of many compromises following Vatican II (many antichrists — 1 John 2:18).

Letter: Evil is a part of the divine plan, and so is free will

Evil is an interesting subject. It is written that God forms the light and creates darkness. He makes peace, and creates evil. He does all these things (Isaiah 45:7) ... the questions arises, what exactly is evil? Immorality, misfortune, sin, Lucifer, death? We understand evil as many things, but essentially they’re all more a result or repercussion of evil than the actual evil itself. So, what is the essence of evil itself?

Letter: What might Jesus say about the church in America today?

I am currently preaching verse-by-verse through the book of Revelation, and for the last few weeks we have been studying Jesus’ letters to the seven churches in chapters two and three. I wonder, what would Jesus write to the church in America today? Could it be something like this:

Letter: The city of Jerusalem belongs to Israel

Editor: Scripture accounts that sovereign God lends no weight or preference to monarchs, politicians or media; and no religion’s doctrines nor the writings in the Quran and Hadiths or the Upanishads sway Him one iota. Covenants, promises of God to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David, are His benchmark and measuring tape for the protection of legal metes and bounds and sights of three who believe Him.

Letter: New York City is behind modern history’s evils

Just as history is falsely treated as isolated events, so is evil. If you look deeply enough, you will find a trail. Many think that the Middle East crisis can be reduced to Muslims versus Israel. But who is behind the scenes festering the situation? Iran has sophisticated nuclear technology. But who is behind it? Communist Russia and China.

Letter: Free will is different than self-will

Mr. Hebacker always writes a good letter; interesting, thought-provoking and cause to Bible dive for an old Scripture spelunker. Thanks to him and the News-Sentinel for the discussion.

Letter: Your birth and death are the sovereign will of God

It was God’s sovereign will that fixed the time of my birth. It is the same will that has fixed the day of my death. And was not the day of my conversion fixed as certainly by that same will?

Thanks to the Lodi News-Sentinel and Tom Baker for opening up a discussion on the truth (or not) of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Letter: All are invited to Bible study at New Hope Church

Over the years I have noticed one common trait amongst most Christians — a serious lack of what they believe and why they believe it.

Letter: Arab and Jewish conflict is due to family conflict

All of the upheaval and death we witness between the Jews and Arabs, and the world at large, is the result of and repercussions from unbelief and impatience with God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah. The fallout from this deep familial rift upsets the whole world in one way or another, and those repercussions are painful and costly and certainly prophetic. For your interest, the biblical accounts are documented in the Book of Genesis, chapters 15, 16, 17, 21, 25, 26 and 27.

Letter: Catholicism, the Beatles and choosing your friends

One of the immediate events following Vatican II was the invasion of Beatlemania. Along with it, there came the nebulous Eastern philosophies that took many from their traditional Catholic Faith.

Letter: Listen to connected council of God, not just the pieces

The Word of God is like a large puzzle that’s made up of a lot of pieces. Each piece is significant but only as it’s connected to the whole. It’s not until the pieces are assembled that we can see the image which it was designed to display. There are exactly as many pieces in a scrambled puzzle as there are in a finished one. But there’s a huge difference: One leaves you guessing and the other reveals the image.

Religion letter: The New Testament church has not replaced Israel

The turmoil in Israel has been very prominent in the news lately. Ever since the nation of Israel was “reborn” in 1948, there has been tension in the region. Some have called for Israel to cede some of her land, while others have called for Israel to be obliterated from the planet.

Letter: Concerns happening today are prophesied in the Bible

The News-Sentinel published an interesting article by Karen Kaplan of the Los Angeles Times, “Antibiotics on verge of becoming useless.” It reported findings from the World Health Organization that warns of alarming levels of resistance to antimicrobial drugs that fight infections like E. coli, HIV, polio, pneumonia, tuberculosis and malaria.

Letter: We are changed by God’s grace

Many professing Christians seem to believe that the term “by God’s grace” merely means that God made something available to them, which they by natural wisdom and ability took advantage of; but this is far from the truth. The grace of God, as Arthur Pink once said, is an almighty power, an invincible dynamic, a principle victorious over all resistance.
