I attended the scrimmage games of my three grandsons on the evening of Aug. 11 and I could not believe what I had seen. The cheerleaders for the teams were wearing red shorts and black tee-shirts. On the shirts was the team name and the number “14.”

My concern is the safety of these children. I am a retired C/O and am very familiar with gang monikers. Red and the number “14” are the monikers for the Norteño gang. I had heard 14 was for the year. For the safety of these children, I strongly feel the number either be removed or corrected to show “2014.”
