Letter: America has found its ruling class

It’s official: There’s a ruling class that sees itself better, more intelligent, more compassionate and more worthy than the people whose labor and sweat they feed off. It is the professional political ruling class that enacts laws and regulations on the people that they themselves are immune to.

Example: Last week the Office of Personnel Management, under pressure from Obama and Congress, said it would rule that state governments can keep making contributions to the health care premiums of members of Congress and their aides. We, the taxpayers, will be paying for their “Cadillac health plans” and subsidies while we lose ours or face enormous premium hikes.

Reason: They can’t afford Obamacare, which will force them to look for more lucrative jobs. There is no concern on the impact to taxpayers who are being forced into part-time work because their employers are forced by government to cut back if they’re to survive. The most ludicrous reason comes from that intellectual philosopher Nancy Pelosi, who said the loss of Capitol Hill workers would cause a loss of a “tremendous intellectual resource.” Are you kidding me!? As my Irish Nana would say in her brogue, “Jesus, Joseph and Mary!”

This government is out of control and out of its collective minds. The only way we can return to sanity, and “we the people” in charge of our lives and not government, is to return to the principles of the Constitution. The founders gave us a way out of an oppressive federal government — let’s follow it!

Apparently, Mr. Liebich, there seems to be a disconnect with you between what documents say and what YOU THINK they say. No one is arguing the existence of the document itself.

Nothing is at face value to you. There is always some undercurrent of conspiracy and doom, some boogey man lurking around the corner waiting to snatch your brain and consume it for evil government purposes - no matter how innocent something appears on the surface.

It must be torture to live that existence.

You are right, Mr. Lucas. There is no way to deal with the mentally deranged unless one is a professional - and even then it takes extreme patience.

"My fear is that there seem to be far too many who would rather remember them as terrorists or traitors while seemingly gleeful as many of our rights are being whittled away for the sake of political correctness."

Quite the exaggeration, Mr. Kinderman, and with healthy dose of your usual "holier than thou" complex.

Yes, we regard the founding fathers as patriots, just as the Israeli's regard those who worked to liberate Palestine from the British are also called patriots. But how did they do it?

Through terrorism. And the British have referred to the Israelis as terrorists.

If the term was in use in 1770, the British would have called those who provoked the Boston Massacre terrorists and later all others who supported independence.

All depends on whether one wants to sugar-coat reality.

"Ms. Bobin, Your reference to the FEMA camps as "conspiracy theory" is utterly absurd."

What is absurd, Mr. Liebich, is that you and your buddy, Alex Jones and all the other conspiracy theorists, have taken a bill that establishes national emergency centers (SIX not 800) and turned it into a plan to imprison the American populace.

Anyone who thinks this way is totally INSANE!!

Besides, the bill has never passed and no action has been taken on it since 2009.

Talk about a buzz killer..... Really, we've heard this all before. Johnson, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Bush again, but not as good as the first Bush, Nixon. Especially Nixon. And now Obama.

The problem is the more you say the same thng over and over, it becomes meaningless and just hyperbole.

What is utterly absurd is all the routings through 3rd and 4th party servers where text can be edited. You've caught them before on the mindless youtube videos. I would reccomend you tryl and find the original text. These people can't be trusted, especially this one.

There's not an American who doesn't realize the value and the sacrifices of the founding fathers and no one more admirable of their role at the time than I. Because we were successful we can call them patriots. However if we failed they would be hung and yes as traitors and as terrorist except that we didn't use the word terrorist as we do today. They would have been considered like pirates like we referred to the middle eastern high seas bandits of the day.

Ms Bobin already pointed out the Boston Tea Party which was by todays standards a terrorist act. There are a number of things (trumped up charges) that would be used (like conservatives do to Obama) to make their case to discourage any sympathetic British citizens. The fact that we didn't fight in the regimented manner as the British did was seen as underhanded as much as the Boston bombers today. Cowardly and meant to kill without facing your opponents squarely in a fair fight.

So, no, anyone against the status quo is a threat and will be demonized to facilitate ostracism, subjugation if not annihilation by any means possible. And thats what the founding fathers faced at the cost of defeat. And that's what is so admirable about them.

In defeat they would have been painted as traitors and terrorists or the equivalent of the day. Please don't set yourself up as the sole defender of the founding fathers. Of course they are patriots to us but it could have gone differently and we would be subjects of the monarchy praising the British army to this day for putting down that attempt by rag tag colonists to steal what rightfully belonged to the crown in goods and taxes and reparations. We would all be part of the Church of England, conscripted into what ever wars the British launched and subject to a lot of bad cooking.

I don’t believe the Founders (especially those who ascribed their names to the Declaration of Independence) were considered “terrorists” at that time but mostly as traitors to the British Crown. Of course they knew and understood what this meant prior to signing their names.

History remembers them now as Patriots - not traitors and certainly not terrorists. As a natural born citizen of the United States of America, I am thankful for the sacrifices that they made that permits me to write what I like, speak out against things I don’t like and worship as I please. My fear is that there seem to be far too many who would rather remember them as terrorists or traitors while seemingly gleeful as many of our rights are being whittled away for the sake of political correctness.

Twenty years ago I couldn’t possibly imagine that anyone would think such things about those who risked so much for us. It’s likely that in another 20 years I’ll be dead; but in what condition will my children and grandchildren be “enjoying” their lives in these United States? It doesn’t look good for them at all.

The difference between a patriot and a terrorist is determined by the winner.
Why were most of the founding fathers walking around with a price on their heads? Why did they fear getting captured by the British?

What? Doesn't the 2nd Amendment allow for armed insurrections, as many gun fanatics claim?

I'm not sure that even Mr. Portal knows what he means when he says, "return to the principals of the Constitution."

Where in the Constitution does it mention healthcare for legislators?

FEMA thinking our founding fathers are terrorists (many were - what do you think the Boston Tea Party was, a friendly outing? I think by today's standards it would still be called terrorism) must go hand in hand with the CT's who think FEMA has 800 concentration camps.

Still Mr. Liebich has trouble understanding that ANYONE can put anything they makeup and edit on youtube. To quote him....[sleeping]

Mr. Kinderman, What I find disturbing is the fact that FEMA thinks our founding fathers were terrorists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oP1Ke70Mi8&feature=youtube_gdata_player. P.S. Search the phrase (DOD founding fathers terrorists) and you will see that FEMA isn't alone in ascribing to such nonsense.

I don't believe Mr. Portal is calling for anything unconstitutional. Actually, I believe he's also calling upon the use of the vote to begin to straighten this mess out. Sadly, not enough freedom-loving Americans avail themselves to that precious right. Instead, they rely upon others to make these decisions for them; they've simply become lazy, lethargic or perhaps just disillusioned. Frankly, I don’t think we have the right to turn our backs on America while we still have a fighting chance.

What I really find disturbing are those who actually believe we're on the right track - that the United States of today is what the Founder's envisioned. It is not.
