It is illegal to text and drive
I thought using a cellphone while driving was illegal in California. I guess the city of Lodi didn't get the message.
There hasn't been one day while driving that I have not seen numerous people using their cellphone while driving. This is dangerous and illegal. I came within inches of a head-on on Mills with a teenager texting while behind the wheel.
I know the police can't be everywhere, so please be careful!

Thanks Vicki You have brought up a serious matter. CHP acknowledges that cell phone usage during driving killed more people than alcohol. That is serious. !!
Perhaps if we had police units whose main job was to 'deter texting by aggressive ticketing' we could slow this down.' With the amount of citizens breaking the law and putting You, Me and our kids at risk !!
I do believe that every day a full time unit was 'on duty' 32 tickets could be written. Current ticket cost is approx. $275. bucks. 260 x 8 = $2080 per day per officer. I think our cost for 1 officer and truck would be about $380. per day.(correct me if I am wrong). Which would generate approx. ( you figure it out)...per month ! DO YOU think the extra revenue would help in our battle with felons ??

My personal favorite are those that I end up behind, thinking they are drunk based on the reckless swerving all over the road, only to pass them and see it's a teen girl or 20something, trying to text with BOTH HANDS.....One of these days I'm going to honk my horn as I pass...

I agree that Lodi has an overabundance of scofflaws. You can look in your rearview mirror and 50% of the time the person in the car behind you has their head down, texting.
I don't notice teens as much as the Soccer Mom types in their SUV's - pink ballcap and ponytail, Starbucks in one hand and cell phone in the other.
I've encountered people on I5 and 99 driving 55MPH - when I pass they are either talking on the phone or have their heads down texting away.
