It would have been better to raise rates
I was disappointed in your failure to publish a paper Monday. I think it showed poor business acumen on your part.
If you wanted to cover costs, why didn't you just raise your rates? I wanted to cancel but my wife wouldn't let me.
Sam West, hope you read this and support me.

I appreciate Dr. Sutherland's feedback, but would like to offer some context.
A large number of advertisers is the key value newspapers offer subscribers.
My fear is that raising the subscription price $1.50 per month will drive away more people than dropping Mondays. Our experience to date seems to bear that out. Nine subscribers out of 13,400 told us they are quitting because of my decision.
Still, more than a few people have called to say they'd pay more to have a Monday paper. That's an expression of support that warms the hearts of all of us at the News-Sentinel.

I pay over $200 a year for the Stockton Record. I would gladly pay $150 a year for a Monday paper. Better yet, add a Sunday paper too and I will drop the Stockton Record. Just saying your paper has a great small town, homey feel that I love.[beam]
