Letter: Stricter gun laws will not help

First I read in the paper about 13 people being shot at a Chicago park — one being a 3-year-old shot in the face — in the toughest city, I’m told, concerning gun laws. Then there was the news of the Navy yard shooter who brought a gun into D.C., which also has one of the toughest gun laws in the country, to murder 12 people. Now people like Sen. Dianne Feinstein call for stricter gun laws, which only enable the criminally minded to be free to have their own personal kill zones.

Carter gave us the seeds to the economic collapse in 2008, and Clinton, with his executive order to disarm our military on base in March 1993, gave us the massacres at Ft. Hood and the Navy yard. But the most despicable and disrespectful act happened when the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee walked out on the parents of the murdered Benghazi Americans, Ty Woods and Sean Smith.

Can you imagine what these parents’ emotions were? Put yourself in their position: Your child was murdered in service to his/her country, and for more than a year, you’re given no answers to your questions. When you finally get the chance to address your concerns to your elected officials of the country your child died for, they walk out on you.

These despicable officials reflect what their leaders Obama and Hillary did the night of Sept. 11, 2012. They abandoned their posts, and in their dereliction of duty allowed these brave men to be murdered. And still we have no idea where these two were that night.

Apparently the NSA can know where millions of us are but can’t find the U.S. President or Secretary of State when our country is being attacked. What a disgraceful, morally corrupt filth the Democrats have in their leadership.

    Mr. Lucas stated:

The last line in this LTE:

What a disgraceful, morally corrupt filth the Democrats have in their leadership.

Of course Mr Lucas can assure us he has never made similar statements about the GOP.

    Consider yourself lucky, Mr. Lucas.

I can't even post a comment here because they are all reviewed by Simon Birch and need his approval first.

And I was never notified that my comments would be policed. That's OK though - already started the wheels to get that corrected with renumeration pending.

Yes, I wrote a letter over 3 weeks ago regarding Joe Guzzardi's column on Cesar Chavez and I didn't even receive the electronic acknowledgment that it was received. I know for a fact that it was submitted correctly via the LNS site.

All other letters I have written had to be "tracked down" after I emailed Richard Hanner. When they were finally printed, their relevance had already expired since they refuted some another right wing LTE.

It is obvious that whoever controls the publication of these letters has a right wing agenda.

Joanne: The new policy now is to insert "facts" in place of "nonsense."

And instead of "right wing conspiracy websites" we want to use the term "truth tellers".

And, to maintain a facade of legitimacy, make sure you point out that the writers, I mean reporters, sorry, work for legitimate news agencies or at the very least belong to a group with an important sounding name. If anyone inquires why the person who authored, sorry again, reported the story, used to be in adult films, just start speaking jibberish like "mushbrains" "opologists" or speak of far off galaxies (you know the ones, they get the alex jones show) and places like "planet poptart".

    this is one

I have to admit I am enjoying the conniption fit our Republican friends are having over the coming implementation of Obamacare. As a supporter of single payer, I myself was not to happy with its passing as it certainly a giveaway to the health insurance companies who for me rate right up there with the tobacco companies when it comes to moral values. As we pay around 18% of our GDP while most of the rest of industrialized world pays around 12% the difference is about a trillion dollars a year more as anyone with an 8th grade level in math will be able to compute. While paying double per person we rank 36th in the world in terms of medical outcomes, do not cover everyone while we let millions go without the ability to fight a major health crisis. Our Republican friends tell us it is all about Freedom. Unlike the the rest of the industrialized world we get the freedom to watch our friends and neighbors die, suffer ! and go bankrupt needlessly. These freedoms only cost us an extra trillion dollars a year! Jesus would be so proud.

There is a hidden reason why those that control the Republican party are trying to stop Obamacare. When proposed, the health insurance companies licked their chops at the prospects at the millions of new customers they would have and to evade single payer they went for it. What they did not count on was the states themselves could use the legislation to implement single payer as Vermont is doing now and several other states are seriously considering. As states implement single payer the results will be the same as in other industrialized countries. The cost of healthcare will fall, everyone will be covered and the outcomes will be better and no one will go bankrupt because of medical bills. Sadly for our Republican friends they will no longer have the freedom to watch their friends and neighbors suffer, die or go bankrupt needlessly. You cannot have everything. ! I have to admit the President played his cards beautifully.

"I have written 3 letters to the editor"

John, please post them somewhere else and let us know. So we all can see what's being rejected. Others have said the same. I now know personally of another also.

Facebook, a free blog or web host, an open forum... anything.

It's pretty obvious that Ron's letter posted automatically early this morning??

    Thanks for the consideration!

I have written 3 letters to the editor in the space of time that Ron has had three published. They were a little harsh on our Republican friends but nothing like Ron's diatribes and certainly no statement like the statement he made that I highlighted. Ron's statement is not just poor but is really outrageously ugly and should never have got past the editorial staff. If you notice there are no LTE's from our political point of view in the last month or so. LSN has obviously made an editorial decision that only the radical right political viewpoint is to be represented with only a token view from our side of the street once in a great while. If one was not from Lodi one would conclude that 90% of Lodi residents are Tea Party acolytes. This is simple not the case.

The other point I would like to make is that Ron's letter makes allegations that are clearly false and no thinking person could agree with. He says the seeds of the 2008 economic collapse were started in the Carter administration. He makes no allusion to what policies Carter started that were the cause. The same can be said of his blaming of Clinton for the navy yard and FT Hood massacres which was clearly false. On this one he should know better. We were both in the military in the 60's and there was nothing then that could have stopped either of these incidents. In fact it would have been easier then.

That Ron is blowing smoke is normal and to be expected but that final sentence was across the line of decency

Another "Pinocchio" for Ron Portal regarding the "Clinton" executive order:

That makes two so far in this letter alone.

Mr. Lucas - I too had the same thoughts about that line early this morning when I first read this letter - before it even had been given a title. I can see why it took so long to place one on this because who knows what the topic really is here.

I agree that the editorial oversight is so poor that statements like this that should be edited never are, resulting in some pretty disgusting comments by letter writers being printed here.

I was of course curious about the charge that Democrats " walked out on the parents of the murdered Benghazi Americans, Ty Woods and Sean Smith."

Googling this brought, of course, only right wing conspiracy websites AND surprisingly, video of the actual committee hearing. Link below:

Of course, all of the aforementioned websites proclaimed that Democrats just got up and walked out when these two parents began their questions.

AND of course, if you watch the video, no such thing occurred. In fact, the hearing room had pretty much cleared out before the end of the testimony of Ambassador Pickering and Admiral Mullen.

Then there was a long recess and the parents came in to begin their questions. The room was empty, as it had been long before with only Issa and a couple of others remaining.

I'm not surprised that Ron Portal fell for this made up nonsense.

I think this letters title should be changed. The first paragraph covers the titles subject, the rest of it should be "The Democrats ruined our country while the Republicans sat back and watched and pointed fingers"

Ron you left out how Obamacare will destroy the country. Blaming Fort Hood and the Navy yard on the Clintons is a nice touch though it really highlites the insanity of this letter.

The last line in this LTE:

What a disgraceful, morally corrupt filth the Democrats have in their leadership.

It is one thing to write a letter full of allegations that are obvious nonsense to any thinking person but to write that last line is beyond civilized behavior and I doubt would even be allowed on Fox news but has become standard fare here at LSN. Are you proud of yourself? Have you no shame? Do not worry you have plenty of company such as anyone who would print this garbage.
