Last year Lodi High School launched a program to reward deserving students who improved their standardized state test scores in core subjects. As you probably know, much is at stake for students and schools who do not perform well. Since there is no grade attached to the test, the staff looked for innovative ways to provide incentives for students to do their best on the STAR test. We asked community members and businesses to help us out.

We would like to personally thank the following businesses for their donations: Avenue Grill, Dr. Keith Kanegawa, Financial Center Credit Union, Juice It Up, Mud Mill, American Auto Body, Golf for 4 Woodbridge Country Club, Costco, In-N-Out Burger, McDonald's, Pacific Bowl, Scooters, The Serpenteriam, LHS Parent Club and Warren Sun — Lodi Unified School District Food Service.

As a result of their generous donations, we were able to provide prizes to deserving students. We had an assembly, and handed out a variety of prizes including iPods and gift and cash cards to students that improved. The students were recognized, and their donations were the talk of the school! The students were very proud of their accomplishments and most deserving students walked away with something.

Because of their donations, Lodi High School leads the pack for comprehensive high schools in the San Joaquin District. Our Academic Performance Index score jumped an unprecedented 21 points over last year, bringing our score to a record high 791. Yes, we are No. 1!

The STAR committee has worked very hard to provide incentives to improve academic achievement. Their donations have a direct effect on student learning, and we are hoping that our score will again improve this year. Thank you to all these businesses for their generosity and support of Lodi high School.
