As a nonprofit, it is gratifying to witness first-hand the generosity of people, businesses and organizations throughout the year. This generosity is magnified over the holiday and Christmas season, and the beneficiaries are often moved to tears when they are presented with gifts for their children and food for their tables.

The Child Abuse Prevention Council, because of the support and giving spirit of St. Joseph’s Medical Center staff, the Stockton Chamber of Commerce’s Green Team San Joaquin, the staff and members of the Builder’s Exchange, Diede Construction, AMR, Ciara Gifts, Calone and Harrel Law Firm, United Rental, California Highway Patrol and the Leo Club, was able to brighten the season for children who otherwise would not have experienced a joyous Christmas.

The CAPC would especially like to recognize the San Joaquin Fairgrounds for their logistic support. The fairgrounds provided a free space to collect, organize and disseminate the gifts for each family — no small feat considering that more than 1,500 gifts were part of that exchange!

On behalf of the children and families that we serve, the CAPC extends grateful thanks to those individuals, businesses and organizations that step up year after year to give children and families a Christmas to remember. Your kindness is greatly appreciated by many who may not have the voice to tell you!

Lindy Turner-Hardin

Executive director

Child Abuse Prevention Council

Don't worry, Mr. Dockter. There is no danger of legal abortion being overturned, despite all the efforts to throw roadblocks in its way and no matter how many demonstrations there are in DC.

Funny how anti-abortionists find it OK to kill doctors in cold blood, declare a difference between "rape" and "legitimate rape," make up their own biological realities and oppose the availability of contraception that would prevent a lot of abortions..

I guess all that's perfectly acceptable.

Was great to see Mike Huckabee trying to wiggle out of his ludicrous remarks on his program this weekend. Of course, his audience gave him a great round of applause when he stated that he DIDN'T SAY what he said. Not a one of his audience a woman under the age of 60 and the rest men. They love him!

Interesting. Calls abortion "infanticide." Look it up. Last a looked, a fetus is not an "infant."

Says beating a kid with a wooden spoon is OK as long as it doesn't leave "visible" bruises. Ever get whacked with a wooden spoon? Bruise or no, it REALLY REALLY hurts.

Someone needs to get their priorities straight.

I don't know if one could say Obama is always a supporter of child abuse prevention considering what is stated below.

One of the great Infanticide supporters of all time speaks!

President Barack Obama issued a statement Wednesday, saying the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision is a chance to "recommit ourselves to the decision's guiding principle: that every woman should be able to make her own choices about her body and her health."

To Lindy: Thank you for your service.

To everyone else: I think the LNS has finally cleared up their backlog of letters.
