This letter is to the letter writer who wrote about Hutchins Street Square not looking clean because the grass was not cut. This person should take a walk just one block up to Emerson Park at Hutchins and Elm streets.

My husband and I go biking every evening. One evening we stopped at Emerson Park. I could not believe my eyes. There were cockroaches all over the barbecue, not just few, but thousands — large and small. And on every table there was at least two black widow spiders. The next evening we went back and took pictures.

Emerson Park is completely infested. I hope the city can get it cleaned up. I hate the thought of people eating off that barbecue, or little kids sitting at the tables. I pray no one gets sick.

Yeah yeah I know - gopher holes. The snakes are after the gophers to eat them. See - it can be a good thing. The owl houses I put up go after the same thing but just don't park your car anywhere near the nests. Nice wide white striping on your hood that will eat the paint right off.

Let's see - Mother nature growing the grass, Mother nature cleaning the grill, Mother nature giving spiders a place to live. - It sounds like home. All the neighbors pets show up at feeding time if you leave food out for them . I have had challenges myself such as skunks that come out at night , coyotes munching on my pets, snakes in my gophers holes and mite and hoppers in the vineyards.

The old part of Lodi no doubt has it's own challenges - so spray it with chemicals to kill the little pests and then we can all die from the chemical residue? Chemicals won't kill spiders and have a tough time killing cockroaches.

Please take a soft cleanser with you next time and clean the grill. Please also rinse thoroughly or simply request that the city remove the barbeques altogether and let the people bring one from home. Spiders will always exist and again it always pays to check out any outside seating before you sit down. Spiders are actually good for agriculture as they can predate the unwanted crop destroying insects.

Yes - I would say that we all live in the jungle whether we like it or not. Waiting for someone else to solve a problem can be like screaming at the mirror. Own it and take care for it.
