As a former Tokay High School graduate, Class of 1984, and a mother of a current Tokay High student, Class of 2016, I feel that graduation should be held in the city where the student goes to school. I don’t care that it could rain, be 110 degrees or if the girls’ shoes may poke a hole in the turf — those are some of the reasons I am hearing for the move to Stockton.

In 1984, Tokay and Lodi High graduated on the same night; one early, one late. We switched each year.

I understand there are more students each year so graduation is Thursday and Friday, and the schools switch each year — no big deal.

Maybe someone should ask the students where they want to hold graduation. This is their big day.

I think the LUSD board should rethink what they are doing to our community. People who are going to celebrate somewhere after the ceremony will probably do so close to where the ceremony took place, which in this case would be Stockton. We are now taking funds away from the Lodi community and giving to Stockton. Bring back graduation to the Grape Bowl!
