Recently, I attended Bill Fortuna’s memorial. Even though I hadn’t seen him since we graduated from Lodi High School in 1965, I went to honor his memory.

From the photo collage of his life, I came away moved by how he’d “thrived where planted.” So many leave Lodi in search of something else. It was obvious Bill had lived a rich and full life right here and had a loving family and good friends.

There’s something inspiring and exemplary about being where you are rather than running off to live some disconnected city life. Bill was obviously the real deal and enjoyed living real life. I’m glad to have seen the results and am currently re-evaluating my own life. I think I want to be more like he was.
