Neighborhoods near methadone clinic should have been notified

As a resident who lives in close proximity to the methadone clinic, I feel like we should have been made more aware of the plans of both Lodi Memorial as well as Dr. Vasti. The hospital is most diligent when it's time to notify area residents about the street closure during their annual event in May.

As far as the clinic is concerned, there are many comments about how helpful it will be for those who are sincere in their attempt to kick their drug habit. But what about those who are using the medicine to "stay well," those that are still using? I am sure there is a lot of diversity in the economic make-up of the clients of the clinic. My concern isn't those who are trying to get well while continuing to be productive members of society. It's those who are going to be trolling my neighborhood looking for things to steal in order to get the drugs they are still using while making an attempt to kick their habit.

I appreciate that I chose to live in an area where there are medical clinics and a hospital within walking distance; however, again I say that it would have been more "neighborly" of our local clinic and hospital to let the surrounding residents know rather than having to read about it in an article in the daily newspaper — especially since they go to great lengths to notify us, door-to-door, about their walk/run.

    The letter writer stated:

"It's those who are going to be trolling my neighborhood looking for things to steal in order to get the drugs they are still using while making an attempt to kick their habit."

So, the people who "are still using," those who Ms. Horton imagines and has absolutely no proof to substantiate her statement, will target HER neighborhood simply because they go there to receive medical treatment at the clinic?

They, obviously, could go anywhere in Lodi to "troll the neighborhood looking for things to steal," if that was their inclination - again no proof these people exist.

These types of opinions show the type of hysteria that can be created when imaginations go wild.
