Pink October Lodi is hosting its 12th annual Race for Awareness on Saturday, Oct. 19.

I would like our community to have a better understanding of Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation. While many Pink October fundraisers raise much-needed funds for breast cancer research, the Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation (nonprofit tax No. 20-1530007) is to help local women who are enduring breast cancer treatments and struggling to make ends meet. We need our community to support this event to make it a success.

The women who apply for grants from the foundation through their health care provider are local women. What makes this foundation unique is that we are able to make payments directly to the creditors of our applicants, like a PG&E bill or a car payment.

They are our sisters, daughters, neighbors, fellow members of our community who are in need of financial assistance while they fight this horrible disease.

To sign up for the race or to find out how you can show your support, go to www.pink-october.org. We hope to see you, our fellow members of this great community, bright and early Saturday, Oct. 19!
