Letter: Renovation of the Grape Bowl had to address ADA upgrades first

The letter writer (“The visitors’ side of the renovated Grape Bowl was poorly designed,” Sept. 11) who suggested that a lower ramp would have been a better first step than the constructed upper ramp misunderstands the purpose of the Grape Bowl project.

The Grape Bowl project is first and foremost about making the Grape Bowl accessible to all of Lodi’s citizens, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. As such, the project is being phased to emphasize ADA accessibility features first. Since ADA parking was already connected to existing seating on the upper deck, it had to be connected to the accessible bathrooms and snack bar first.

While a lower ramp is in the plans for the facility, the program simply does not have adequate funding to achieve all of the improvements at this time. Donations are welcome and may be made to the Save the Grape Bowl Fund or Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services to finish off this important work.

My son graduated from Lodi high and his ceremony was at the Grape Bowl. It looks like a tragedy after all those funds were spent and the only nice sight there is the ARTIFICIAL field, with weeds already taking over the rest of the landscape and more money dumped into the black hole at parks and rec and HSS. Poor, slow worksmanship and progress from the same old dullard, high priced local contractors. And the same old crybabies responding with their same old retorts.

Mr. Jackson, Doug has already become the laughing stock of the Grand Jury after all of his predictions that someone was about to be arrested/indicted for the behaviors you cite. I'm worried that he has been hanging out at the wine tasting tent looking for the good ol boys and gotten bored.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.... Doug, didn't your parents tell you, "If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all."

If they had we would not have to put up with your constant and tired old rants of how everything in the city (CoL, CC, LUSD, HSS, etc etc) is horrible, how everything is done by crappy contractors, and how deals are done over cocktails in some back room at a Russ Munson establishment.

When you can identify all of the members of this so-called "Good Ol' Boys Network" can you please put together an alphabetical list so we all know who you are talking about. I'm sure Rich & Marty would like to publish your list too.

Once again Mr. Chaney, if you have proof of some improper work, or bid rigging, I suggest you take it to your attorney who can take it to the DA. If you have no proof, I suggest that you stop your misguided rants.

After so many years do you really think ANYONE in this city takes your online jabs seriously? You're nothing but a bitter old man punching his frustrations out on a keyboard.

Oh, and don't forget that YOU can always run for City Council too.

Jeff, mooch some more money from the good ol' boys and wealthy. The new Grape Bowl looks insufficient for the funds spent and lackadaisical work done on it. And right in the midst of the new gangland. The beautiful field is the only attribute worth bragging about at the site. The worksmanship sucks for the funding spent. Get rid of these local lackies and contract out to some contractors with a reputation for good worksmanship, not a bunch of laborers.
