The letter writer (“The visitors’ side of the renovated Grape Bowl was poorly designed,” Sept. 11) who suggested that a lower ramp would have been a better first step than the constructed upper ramp misunderstands the purpose of the Grape Bowl project.

The Grape Bowl project is first and foremost about making the Grape Bowl accessible to all of Lodi’s citizens, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. As such, the project is being phased to emphasize ADA accessibility features first. Since ADA parking was already connected to existing seating on the upper deck, it had to be connected to the accessible bathrooms and snack bar first.

While a lower ramp is in the plans for the facility, the program simply does not have adequate funding to achieve all of the improvements at this time. Donations are welcome and may be made to the Save the Grape Bowl Fund or Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services to finish off this important work.
