Christensen’s Fashions closes after 54 years in business
On Nov. 16, after 54 years in business, the doors to Christensen's Fashions in Downtown Lodi closed forever.
After 39 years working in the store his grandfather, Spencer Christensen, started, it is time for my husband Mike to retire. During that time we have seen many changes to the business community of Downtown Lodi, but one thing never changed — our commitment to provide affordable fashion to the women of Lodi.
We sincerely appreciate the support of our many customers over the years. We enjoyed their smiles, their jokes and their lives, as they were not only our supporters but our friends. This was mainly because of our very special sales staff, who truly understood the words "customer service" — most especially Monika Clasen, who spent 24 years with us. There have been many employees over this time span, all of whom we consider part of our family. Just a few of those include Joy Hickcox, Linda Garing, Janet Poteet (deceased), Marcella Verseput (deceased) and Agnes Tsutsumi (deceased).
I often kidded my husband that he was the "Mayor of School Street." He truly enjoyed going to work six days a week. It was never a chore; it was something he loved. He loved to "kibitz" with his customers, fellow store owners and business people, local politicians and city employees, and the many other people who make up Downtown Lodi.
Thank you, Lodi, for being such a significant part of our lives. You will be missed, but never forgotten. You will live on in the many wonderful stories we will tell in our years of retirement.

I remember those days when I had to accompany my mom in there because I was too young to stay at home alone. Sorry to see them go. My wife would have loved to shop.
