John Ledbetter recently invited our community to join him at Hutchins Street Square for Labor Day Lodi on Sept. 2.

I was pleased when I heard that Field and Fair Day was back. It is one of my most prized memories of Lodi. I remember waking up early so our family could ride our bikes to Hutchins to watch the hot air balloons escape into the sky. The air always had a bite at that time in the morning, but the cold weather didn’t phase us — we were all so excited!

A few years, my parents drove so we could follow the balloons in our car. And one year, we even were able to ride in a balloon! Yes, they are fun memories ... and I’m excited that I will get to relive the memories with my nieces and nephews!

A big thank you to Hutchins Street Square Foundation for hosting this event — it’s great to have a community event that is safe and fun for all ages. I’m looking forward to seeing my childhood friends with their children at Hutchins as we watch the balloons fly into the sky once again.

It doesn't really work Shane's way, either. God needs superstitious humans to exist; without ignorance, God is nothing.
