Letter: Lodi police officers were correct in their actions

This letter is to the police protocol “experts” and the tough guy who compares police officers to “frightened children.” If I’m walking in my neighborhood and encounter a person — particularly one well known to the police department — with a knife of any size, and there are no dandelions yet available for salad, the next person I want to see is a Lodi police officer with gun drawn exiting a vehicle.

If the knife-wielder does not immediately respond to an order to drop the knife, I assume the above would rush to dissuade any bad intention of the perpetrator by hugging him, or by threatening him with your intention to break his kneecap — with his permission of course.

The family mouthpiece could agitate for “excessive force,” and we know the route that charge travels. Some readers with delicate sensibilities may choose not to continue.

I am of the school that believes, “If you must take them down, be sure they stay down.”

My prayers are for the officers who did their job, and for their families.

    I'd rather have a gun and walk on the other side of the street or turn around and go back. If Bozo insists on following me and continues to be a threat to me, I would settle the issue.
