April 8 is a time to remember the Holocaust

Monday, April 8 is Holocaust Remembrance Day, a time when Israel honors the memory of 6 million Jews by learning about their heroism in the face of inhumanity, and explores the roots of anti-Semitism.

"Holocaust" ("Ha Shoah" in Hebrew) actually means "a burnt offering consumed in whole by flame," and although others suffered the same fate by the Nazis (e.g., gypsies, homosexuals, Sabbath keepers of various faiths/denominations, and those with mental/physical disabilities) the word "Holocaust" specifically refers only to Jews.

The question has been asked, "If the ovens were for a special burnt sacrifice, what was the reason?" It has been explained that the guilt of so many countries that "looked away" from the Jewish persecution was so great that Israel was recognized and given her own place and identity as a nation by the U.N. in 1948. The United States was the first country to recognize Israel and support her as a nation.

Sad to say, the roots of anti-Semitism are still alive and continue to grow hate. Those of us who follow Yeshua/Jesus have a special unction to follow the command to "pray for the Shalom in Yerushalayim; may those who love you prosper" (CJB Psalms 122:6).

I was in Germany and Dachau in 1972 I put my hand inside one of the ovens... My life is never been the same. Only the birth of my children had a bigger effect on my life.
