Over the past few weeks there have been numerous comments regarding the lack of a flag at football games, or about the condition of the flag which was presented prior to the Lodi versus St. Mary's football game on Sept. 30. As the owners of this well-used flag, we would like to make a couple of comments.

Just a short time before the start of the Lodi/St. Mary's football game, the Lodi High staff noticed that the usual small flag at the press box had been removed. As a last resort, Athletic Director Erin Aitken called us to bring our flag.

Yes, this particular flag is faded. It has been flown proudly on a daily basis since our close friend's only son joined the Army and served our country as a Blackhawk Medivac helicopter pilot in the Middle East. His service to our country and deployment overseas has spanned eight years. There is a great deal of emotional sentiment and pride in flying this flag, and no disrespect due to its condition was intended.

We will continue to hang it with pride and lend it to Lodi High or anyone else who shares these sentiments.
