Let’s review how we spent money in the past

A few weeks ago the Lodi News-Sentinel reprinted an article about the building of the old Lodi Union High School. The article stated that the groundbreaking was in February, and students started attending school that fall. Our leaders saw a need, and the need was fulfilled in less than a year.

The article didn't say, but I imagine the building was constructed using American labor, material and machinery. It also did not give a cost, but I'll bet it was reasonable.

In the same issue was an article about an interchange in Galt that was going to cost over $8 million. It has already been talked about for over a year, plus it is going to cost over $1 million more just to talk about it some more. Then it is going to cost many more millions to bring in experts to study and inspect the construction, because we don't have the necessary experts to do the job.

Also in the same issue was an article about how the school system was dropping the smaller class size per teacher program because of cost and poor performance. How can fewer students per teacher be a bad thing? Yet Gov. Moonbeam is bragging about how much more money is being given to education.

He then brags about pressing forward with the multibillion-dollar Delta water tunnel and the high-speed train fiasco. On Feb. 15, we learn the Bay Area Toll Authority is going to spend $5.5 million in one day because the Bay Bridge is opening. Last August, Caltrans started repair work on Highway 12, worked two months, got halfway through the project and then left the road in worse shape than when they started.

We have cities where people are afraid to come out at night, and some wonder where their next meal is going to come from. Maybe we should look to our past and see how things were accomplished. The present system doesn't seem to be working, and nobody is paying attention or seems to care.

You're right Mr. Jacobs. Look at your own Lodi city council and management team. There's a prime example if I've ever seen one. Makes the Dukes of Hazzard and Boss Hogg look like amateurs, with the book cooking techniques. They're OK as lond as they can keep that same generic accounting firm each year to do their audits, but a real down and out professional audit would, I believe have at least a dozen new prisoners in our prisons.
