This is in response to Ms. Harding, who expressed that the reason so many children are in foster care is the expense associated with adoption.

I would like to clarify that adopting a child through foster care involves very little cost. San Joaquin County's Human Services Agency works closely with each perspective adoptive family to provide training, home study completion and emotional support so that the out-of-pocket expenses to the family are minimal.

San Joaquin County currently has approximately 1,600 foster children, many of whom are waiting for their forever families. I would encourage anyone looking to grow their family through adoption to explore foster-adoption; I can personally attest to what a rewarding process it is!

    Leslie,

If you have foster children, the state wants the keys to your front door, and they consider your house to be their house, and they can walk in using the key to the front door at any time they please.

There also have plenty of expectations pertaining to your lifestyle. In every possible way that they can conceive that one of their children can hurt themselves, they want to see that item under lock and key.

Children can hurt themselves with laundry detergent. Therefore these need to be locked-up so that the state's children will be "safe" from drinking a bottle of detergent. Therefore, the "parents" need to retain in their possession a set of keys at all times. I suppose there is no possibility that a child who wishes to endanger themselves would not sneak into the " parents' " bedroom and steal these keys in the middle of the night or while the "parent" is taking a shower. Therefore, we must sleep and take a shower with the keys wrapped around our ankle.
