The Lodi Arts Commission has worked hard over the past 29 years to bring diverse events to the Lodi community, and Saturday’s inaugural Taco Truck Cook Off was one of the best attended ever.

The June 18 event was held in conjunction with the celebration of Project Lodi Art’s Lodi Avenue Sidewalk Mosaic art project. Attendees were given maps to view the one-of-a-kind mosaics inlaid in the Lodi Avenue sidewalk, sample tacos from the eight participants and then vote for their favorite. Quite an eclectic afternoon’s festivities.

Thank you to our esteemed taco judges, Mayor Bob Johnson, Pat Patrick, president and CEO of the Lodi Chamber of Commerce, Thom Sanchez, from Waste Management, the Hispanic Business Committee and Dave Lucas, of The Lucas Winery.

Thanks also to The Mud Mill for creating and donating the unique trophies, Taste of Heaven for the beautiful donated raffle prize, Camp Hutchins for decorating the ballot boxes, Smart & Final Co. for letting their site be used and the El Gallo Commissary for their support coordinating with the vendors.

The Lodi Arts Commission strives to bring the best in arts and entertainment to Lodi. Is there something you would like to see brought to Lodi? If you have the passion and the time for the arts, the Lodi Arts Commission and the Lodi Arts Foundation are great examples of how you can volunteer for your community.

Please contact me, Deanie Bridewell, Hutchins Street Square Community Center manager, at 333-6800 ext. 2458, or go to www.lodi.gov to download an application. The LAC meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. The LAF meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at noon.

Thank you again to everyone who participated, and especially to the community for coming out and supporting this event.
