We need to be rational about environmentalism

The environmental movement has turned from being pro-environment and habitat, to being anti-"human species."

Let's take the California levee system. The California Department of Fish and Game has joined the Sierra Club to sue the Army Corps of Engineers for their policy regarding trees and vegetation on the levees, which compromise the strength of the levees. The CDFG claims that the Corps is not honoring the Endangered Species Act. Apparently the Swainson's hawk takes precedence over people's homes and livelihoods. The Corps has pulled all funding for 17 of Central California's levees. At a recent California Air Resources Board hearing about cap-and-trade, a "green" water consultant had the nerve to say that the farmers should be farming "habitat and tulles."

Let's take the Habitat Connectivity Report (2010) that was a collaboration of the CDFG and Caltrans. This 300-plus page report has elaborate maps and graphs of their plan to connect land in California for habitat migration and travel, because "functional network of connected wildlands is essential to the continued support of California's diverse natural communities in the face of human development and climate change' while helping reduce dangerous wildlife-vehicle collisions." Nasty humans and their vehicles!

Steve Mayo of the San Joaquin Council of Governments, Inc. — in charge of buying up conservation easements in our area — was on the Technical Advisory Group for this study. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Let's just try to approach solutions with common sense and rational thinking, and cut back on the hysteria.

Sky falling? Hardly, just a letter identifying why California is considered one of the worse places to open a new business or expand an existing one... the only thing falling is the tax revenue to fund our schools and other important services.

What is hysterical is the Tea Parties attitude towards Agenda 21, not providing migratory corridors for migratory animals.
