Recently, I was a little puzzled by a reader’s outrage over NBC News calling Social Security and Medicare “entitlements,” which is exactly what they are and have been called that since their inception.

An “entitlement” is, primarily, a government payment that benefits citizens financially whether or not they have paid into a program. All entitlements are not “freebies.” They are governmental obligations that must be paid even if the government becomes insolvent or shuts down as Republicans forced it to do in 2013.

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding of both SS and MC programs. SS, officially the Federal Insurance Contribution Act, is just that — insurance. Just like any other insurance, an individual will eventually receive much more money than they will have paid into it. Much more. The same goes for MC.

On another topic, by now, non-Trump supporters are feeling vindicated, especially in light of the past 60 days.

Our “Liar-in-Chief” has used every tactic to divert attention from his failed policies and illegal activities — especially those concerning his business practices. Far from “stepping down” from the Trump Organization and letting his sons, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, run the business, Trump continues to be involved and is in violation of the U.S. Constitution by receiving monetary benefits from foreign governments.

Trump has accused President Obama, without evidence, of committing a felony; he has filled his administration with billionaires and former Wall Street operators — including one who benefited by over 50 million from the housing crisis through foreclosures; and he has installed a woman who definitely paid for her post with over 5.3 million in political contributions. So much for “draining the swamp.” He is now also the “Gator-in-Chief,” and the stench is only getting stronger.

Trump has morally equated the U.S. with Putin’s treachery by stating, “What do you think? Our country’s so innocent?”

Trump is thumbing his nose at seniors by cutting essential programs like “Meals-on-Wheels” and Medicaid.

As another writer commented, there will be “pick (sic) slips or prison sentences” soon. The only surprise for some is that the individuals who end up in the pokey will all be from Trump’s administration.
