I want to commend and congratulate the city of Lodi, Kathy Grant, the Lodi News-Sentinel and especially the students who participated in the successful production of the Mokelumne Current insert in our local newspaper recently. The articles authored by students were well-researched, well-written and insightful.
This is a superb example of a win-win situation for our community: The students gain watershed stewardship knowledge and journalism skills while our local watershed benefits from the awareness and education the Mokelumne Current has brought to thousands of LNS readers.
I am delighted to see watershed management receive this type of attention and coverage in our schools and local paper. From what I’ve read, it seems that this project has been a great success — so much that it could evolve into a monthly or quarterly insert. I’m looking forward to future issues!
