The front-page headline of Nov. 16 was a great one, and our country's veterans deserve our respect and honor. We have a family to be deployed next year to a volatile area of the world, and we are hopeful of his safe return. Thank you for your coverage of our veterans and current military.

I was surprised, however, to not see an article on the Salvation Army's Kettle Kickoff fundraising luncheon at the Grape Festival Chardonnay Room. In these days of economic horrors, the homeless were thought of and the goal of $85,000 was not only made, but even more came in and more is coming in. I have attended various meetings and volunteered with the Salvation Army over the years, and they are a selfless, God-fearing and loving people. Please give them credit for doing the most good here in Lodi and in the world. Every donation raised here in Lodi stays in Lodi. Remember that when it comes time to make those tax-deductible donations at the end of the fiscal year. In the memo, write: Lodi Salvation Army.
