Letter: Affordable Care Act is expensive, makes no sense

First, the Affordable Care Act is not affordable. Many people are finding that their premiums and co-pays are escalating above and beyond what their original policies were.

On top of this, there are additions being added that do not make any sense (unless you’re a politician).

For example, one of the requirements for anyone aged 27 and above (senior citizens excluded) must have pediatric dental in their policy. Now the question is, why would an adult need this coverage?

It is because of inserts like this that the ACA is not going to be affordable. ACA (aka Obamacare) should self-destruct — or get rid of the politicians that passed it to find out what’s in it.

Because the candidate 'insinuated" they would get free healthcare if the elected him.
Healthcare run by the Federal government reducing actual costs. That's rich, in which fantasy world is that possible?

"Although he (my husband) has coverage up the ying-yang, I'm looking forward to getting Obamacare coverage."

"The one I chose was the Blue Shield "silver" plan - hope Mr. Baumbach doesn't choke, but I'll only have to pay $104/month and the "taxpayer" (ME) gets to pick up the balance of $819!!!"

"Since I work and pay taxes I DO feel entitled!!"

But apparently SOME of people have managed to get taxpayers to subsidize their insurance premiums even though they are most likely quite capable of doling out the entire cost of the Obamacare premiums. Insurance welfare? You bet.

I guess we ALL cannot be lucky enough to be eligible for FREE medical care, but if I was eligible, I certainly would not, especially as a Christian, throw it in the faces of others who could not, previous to the ACA, even OBTAIN medical insurance due to a pre-existing condition or other circumstance.

It it shameful for ANYONE to take pleasure in the misfortunes of others. This sounds more like Kindergarten playground taunting than it does an adult conversation about a serious topic.

Oh - but guess what? I AM ELIGIBLE for FREE medical care. It is just unfortunate that the person I love most in the world had to go through hell and back and then, as a result, end up with a disease that will most likely kill him in order for me to get it.

Believe me, I'd rather pay for coverage than have my loved one suffer this fate.

    John,

You conveniently left out all the people who are already practicing preventitive healthcare but still got a big increase in the cost of their health insurance. They were already struggling to pay their premiums. Of course you just consider this collateral damage. How quaint.

Mr. Lucas apparently believes "In time the price of healthcare will go down."

Any idea how much "time" we are talking about Mr. Lucas?[rolleyes]

In time it will not be free but it will bring down the cost of healthcare in this country and the savings will substantial. In that sense it will be partly free. Jerome. in time you will see the truth but by then you will go on to something else.

Well golly gee, oh my; surprise, surprise, surprise!! And to think - there were some who actually believed the Affordable Care Act was going to be free. Thankfully someone finally chose to find out what was actually in it. It's just so terribly sad it had to become law before the education began. I wonder - who's "bad" should this be attributed to; We the People, They the Congress or (dare I say) He the President of the United States of America? My vote goes to all of the above!

It does not make any sense because you do not want it to make sense. The two main drivers of higher medical costs are administrative costs and the cost of people not getting preventive healthcare and see a doctor when sick. Obamacare addresses these issues. In time the price of healthcare will go down because people will catch health problems earlier when they are much cheaper to treat. This is huge.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the cost of healthcare go down because of Obamacare. Just because you cannot understand it will not keep that reality from happening.

Obamacare doesn’t just demand that we buy pediatric dental, it also demands men buy maternity benefits. The following video exchange is humorous, but the underlying issue is that people who do not need a benefit are still required to purchase it.
