I am writing this letter in regards to the Roget Park ceremonies on April 6. I attended the event to help celebrate a new and beautiful park in our community. The opening ceremonies and presentation were very nice and well done.
As I walking around the park enjoying it with my wife I see a young kid (teenager) playing his guitar. My wife and I went closer to enjoy more as we continued to view the new park, and when we approached we realized there was a sign out on the teen's guitar case asking for donations for his college fund and pizza. At first I was thinking it was a joke, but then, watching people in our community walk by, read it and put money in his case, I then realized it was not. My wife and I found this to be disrespectful to the family the park land was donated by, and to our fellow citizens.
After discussing this with others, I found out that the teen performing and collecting money was the director of Parks and Recreation’s son. This to me is even more disappointing and disrespectful.
