Dr. Benjamin Carson would make a good president

If you haven't already heard of Dr. Benjamin Carson, he is the chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He has written several books, two of which I've read: "Think Big" and "Gifted Hands." I plan to read "America the Beautiful."

He gave an epic speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. He was fascinating — so good that Mr. Obama was bored stiff, but his wife was applauding. He talked about many things and was right on the money. He talked about our unfair taxes and our horrible debt. He said that if you could say a number a second it would take you 507,000 years to reach 16.5 trillion. Very gutsy — for just about everything he said — since his views are opposite of what Obama is trying to do, and he was sitting one seat away. Watch his YouTube speech, and see if he isn't just what we need in a president.

He and his wife started the Carson Scholars fund. They gift scholarships and trophies just like sports, but for academics. He and his brother were raised by a mom with a third-grade education. She was married at 13 and one of 24 kids. She is the inspiration that turned young Benjamin around. He was a bad student, had a horrible temper and yes, they were very poor.

He is a healer, a problem solver, and doesn't just cast blame. By the way, he is African-American and loves our country, Jesus and the flag. All contrary to what Obama believes.

Obama said the flag is oppressive to some people. Which ones are they? The ones we freed?

He said "The Star-Spangled Banner" is bad because of bombs bursting in air, and that our national anthem should be to teach people to sing. Doesn't he know American history? In the War of 1812, the British admiral ordered the flag down at the fort. That night the fight started — bombs bursting in air. Francis Scott Key was with the soldiers, and tried to see if our flag was still there. That next morning, through all the smoke and debris, he saw it and all of our soldiers at the base who made sure that flag did not come down.

Typical rants and feined outrage by the liberal media and do-nothings pop up when ever a good person with conservative beliefs arises. They are threatened. So they threaten. Mr Vetica merely pointed out a man who raised himself out of the ghetto with the help and guidance of his mother and by reading and working hard only to go on to medical school and become a neurosurgeon. WOW. What is the response from the liberal clowns? Attack, attack something...anything. 'Cept here....they are shooting blanks. Grow up. My grandmother pointed out that we had two ears and one mouth for one reason...my grandfather said we had two hands and one behind for one reason..I would bet that Dr Carson's mom believed the same thing.

I did notice that and quickly determined that the source of such nonsense should be enough to send it to the round file.

But I suppose there will be others that will be sufficiently fueled by such claptrap to exclaim: "let the reparations begin!"

Mr. Walters (hint), when you repeat what someone writes, you don't have to name names, so what you said above is just plain silly.

Like Mr. Barrow, I've been quite busy - already spent 5 hours at work, taken the dogs to the park for an hour and a half while I walked, read and played with them, gone grocery shopping, made a trip to Target for cat litter, detergent and my husband's 14 prescriptions, and started dinner. Oh, I forgot, I also did some yard work and put the rest of my Christmas decoration boxes up where they belong in the garage.

The few times I've actually sat down, I've made a couple of comments here in between other Internet activities. Hope that is busy enough for you.

Ms. Bobin : You evidently read my post and made note that no names were mentioned. I stated that so little time and so many insults, again no names were mentioned from a day`s worth of people insulting people, if you fit into that catogory what can I say. I was refering to the regulars that insult people on a daily basis, and you know who you are. Some people, again no names are mentioned and evidently have little else to do. As a rule I post once a day, read all the trash including mine, through in my 2 cents worth, sit back and watch who fires off a salvo against me and what times they are posted. Come on people its a nice day, to nice to stay inside take a walk, perhaps it will improve your outlook and you won`t find to much fault in my post. Then again if you do, you do.[beam]

As we already know, the Republican Party and the Democrat Party have switched philosophies over the years. The only one who DOESN'T know this is Ms. Parigoris.

In real time, which party favored Civil Rights in the sixties and STILL does, and which party favors repealing those rights, including RAND PAUL, TEA Party favorite and one who has been caught on tape saying that civil rights don't apply to private industry.

Amazing. Mr. Walters talks about how others are insulting people, then proceeds to make insults.

As for Mr. Liebich - he has repeated the lie about Obama and the Star Spangled Banner so many times in this forum and still expects everyone to believe it when it has been debunked.

Mr. Walters, of course I understand that most Americans have the opportunity to vote by mail. By using the metaphor "duffs" I also meant for them to take the time to actually fill out the ballot, buy and then affix a stamp to the envelope and then stick it in the mail. For many Americans that's too hard or they're made to feel they're being disenfranchised for almost any reason under the sun including the high price of buying a postage stamp.

There's no excuse for not voting in any election. Since I turned 18 in 1974 I haven't missed one election. Even while stationed at Bitburg Air Base, Germany from 1982 through 1985 I still voted. I actually value my right to cast a ballot. Sadly, there are far too many of us of voting age who simply don't care to do it - either by going to the polls physically or by mail. Those who waste their vote could actually make the difference as to who wins or loses – both nationally and locally.

So little time, so many insults. Even if anything could be fair and balanced, it wouldn`t. Seems other people on this forum are having their intelligence insulted, but then you have to have intelligence to be insulted. It was said by one poster that if everyone would get off their DUFF`S every 2-4 years results could or would be altered. Evidently the person taking the time to write this post has never heard of voting by mail, which the majority of people are using rather than standing in line. Right.

I didn't indicate that voter malaise is the "only" problem with our government today, but it is significant.

Yet here we are into Obama's fifth year as our president and we are not only further apart as Americans, we're also not much better off than we were when he took office in 2009. Obama seems to have no desire to bridge the racial gap - why? Because he NEEDS it in order to advance his progressive agenda. Divisiveness is required. Otherwise, he would be vocally and actively against the continuation of racial separation.

There's no doubt that the majority of black Americans voted for Obama is because he's black. Many of us have recognized this from the very beginning of his meteoric rise to the presidency. In spite of what others here might think, the color of his skin has had no bearing on why I voted against him twice. It's his "governing" (if one can even call it that) that has had me easily vote for anyone who would oppose him. That's a sad commentary because I would much rather vote "for" someone rather than "against" another. In both 2008 and 2012 I had little choice.

The Republicans have what will be two incredibly important elections in 2014 and 2016. They've been on the sidelines for the last two presidential contests - if they lose the House in two years then I will yield that we will likely be a progressive nation for the foreseeable future - and that destroy us.

This is why you conspiracy theorist worry me you refuse to take the time to fact check your info and instead are willing to believe anything that conforms to your twisted worldview.

Voter turnout in 2008 and 2012 was the highest since 1968 so if it makes you feel better to think that's the problem go ahead but the truth is that most Americans don't like the Republican message and the demographics show that that is only going to continue to work against the right.

I'm confused myself. As far as I know there are no former American slaves still living; neither are there any former free Americans who helped to free them among us. So what's with this "we" regarding those who were enslaved by and who were freed nearly 150 years ago.

We have a black President of the United States. That's a long way from slavery. When will we be able to move along from what was certainly a national sin, but is no longer being committed? No one ever told me that life would be fair - human beings by nature can be very bad. Slavery is no longer an issue in this country. Even those who believe we're being enslaved through an over-reaching government are being disingenuous as it is through our vote we choose who governs us. In this regard if the majority of Americans would get off their duffs every four years (or two), the outcome of these elections might be significantly altered.

Just for the record, an American flag should never bear “any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature,” according to U.S. flag code. Additionally, U.S. Flag Code-Title 4, Ch. 1, Sec. 3 prohibits the “Use of flag for advertising purposes.”

During the campaign one could go to barackobama.com and buy an American flag that replaces the 50 stars representing the 50 states with President Obama’s campaign logo.

I don't know what Vetica's definition of "bored" is (my definition is "reading a LTE from Dennis Vetica"), but President Obama looked anything but bored. Not surprising that one of Vetica's heroes, Rush Limbaugh, declared that Obama was "sleepy." I guess scratching your eye indicates boredom and sleepiness.

And is Vetica suggesting that our flag is "oppresive" to African Americans, "the ones we freed?"
