Thank you for the front-page news article in the Aug. 12 paper on the recent winner of the U.S. poet laureate, Philip Levine. Poets are the most under-read writers of our time, but their relevance is necessary to our social conscience. As a big fan and former student of Philip Levine, I applaud the Lodi News-Sentinel for reporting on this distinguished event.

I appreciate your positive choices and selections of quality news to go beyond the political quagmire. It is both comforting and refreshing to know that poets are recognized and treasured in our time by all kinds of readers. Thanks for the good news!
