The Angels of the Field consists of a group of dedicated moms and local citizens who have been donating their time, energy, money and love to the poorest children of the migrant farm worker community. These children spend their winters in motel rooms, tents, cars and encampments waiting for their parents to arrive back from terribly hard days of harvesting grapes and local produce. The children are the poorest of the poor.
Christmas for these children is a day that comes only once a year — but not on Dec. 25. For more than 10 years, their Christmas is held at the Jean Harvey Community Center 20 minutes from town. This year’s celebration on Saturday, Dec. 11 will start around 11 a.m. There are always toy donations, volunteer musicians, a Santa and warm meals and sweets. It is where you can find the truest spirit of giving and the most appreciative little smiles and hugs. Your donations go directly to the Angels of the Field to be redistributed amongst the families.
Myself and several others will be walking along School Street during the Parade of Lights with buckets calling out for donations. Any change you can give perpetuates a successful December 11th Christmas for the children. Donations may also be sent to the Angels of the Field c/o Jean Harvey Center, 14273 River Road, Walnut Grove, CA 95690.
Merry Christmas and thank you for your donation.
