Where did Lodi Unified School District find the settlement money?

School districts in California have been crying for years about the lack of money for educating our children and paying our teachers a decent wage.

For more than 11 years I worked directly with several school districts in Northern California, and have witnessed the apathetic waste that goes on in our schools first hand.

Now I see that the Lodi School District has agreed to plunk down $4.75M to settle a sexual abuse lawsuit.

Where does this money come from, and how much is left? Something creepy is going on in this state, and I for one would like to know just what it is!

I'm not convinced that an insurance payment was made.

There are a lot of consequences for using insurance. As I stated, below, when the insurance bond is depleted, then LUSD could no longer exist as a public entity.

I think the district made payment arrangements.

    plunk.
    verb, transitive:
    1. To throw or place heavily or abruptly: ...plunked the money down on the counter.

    OK. OK. I was suspicious.

    Joanne:
When a settlement is paid out of insurance, this reduces the remaining value of the insurance liability.
If the amount of coverage goes to Zero, then the school district is no more... say bye-bye...
So I ask if anyone knows the value of the insurance liability?

Correct Ms. Bobin and Lodi Unified has its own self-insurance fund that it will use to pay the $50,000 deductible. The district's general fund that pays for teachers and other classroom services is not touched.

Mike McInerney worked directly with several school districts in Northern California for more than 11 years and isn't aware of this? I find that odd.

    It's called liability insurance.
