The United States of America was an idea conceived by our Founding Fathers just over 2 1/4 centuries ago. They sought freedom from oppression and tyranny by monarchs, potentates, clerics and rulers who believed themselves to be infallible and their "authority" as absolute and under the shield of Divine Providence. These rulers oppressed those who trusted their authority blindly; they who dared not to question such.

A relatively small group of free-thinkers gathered to bring forth the concept of a free nation where men would be ruled by reason and righteousness; not by the voice of many who might follow blindly and irresponsibly, of their charisma or their ability to tell others what the rulers thought they ought to hear. The free-thinkers became nation-builders, rejecting the misconception that a "majority rules" and embracing the fact that the light of free-thinking and truth-guided minds would shine through the shadows and fog of deception, half-truths, fear-mongering and glory-seeking.

With freedom comes a tremendous responsibility to learn for oneself and become intimately acquainted with any and all issues affecting our lives as free human beings. Our Founding Fathers envisioned a nation that would be a beacon of enlightenment, truth, liberty and freedom for all; they envisioned freedom of speech, not unrestrained, irresponsible and immoral expression; freedom of religion, not freedom from religion; and as President Lincoln so aptly declared in his address at Gettysburg, a government BY the people, FROM the people and FOR the people.

As you cast your vote to decide who will govern during the ensuing term, let your decision be guided by that which reason, truth and righteousness requires. Allow not your vote to be misguided by the half-truths of fear-mongering, condescending glory-seekers think you should.

The Lodi News sentinel is as biased paper has I have ever seen. No journalistic morals. No balance. No sense of fair play. Shame on them.
