Writer responds to Cummins' letter
Pastor Bill Cummins was correct in pointing out that the Church
of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints has existed for about 170
years.
Pastor Cummins then stated that Biblical Christianity was over
2000 years old. The first people referred to as "Christianos" were
a few Hellenistic Syrians around 45 C.E. The name didn't stick
until the beginning of the 2nd Century C.E. That makes Christianity
a bit more than 1900 years old at the most.
A question: What is "Biblical Christianity?" There are many
hundreds of denominations with different beliefs and practices. Can
they all be Biblically correct? Is any part of what is known as
Christianity really Biblically pure? Maybe a local pastor would
write a letter to the News-Sentinel explaining why his church is
correct and all others are in error.

In my church, we believe that nothing will bring you closer to the Lord than handling a snake. You should have seen mom up there today.

Cliff: I am not a pastor, but I will take a shot at your challenge. Most main stream Christians will refer to their denomination as the Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran expression of the Christian Faith. Again most main stream Christians have a common creed, the Apostles or Nicene Creed which proclaims the Holy Trinity.

"Maybe a local Pastor will write a LTE explaining why his Church is correct and all others are in error." "Ideology" the body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, or culture. Just try living like a Christian Cliff, and the rest of us will find are own path to God.

Cliff: When they start saying how their church is correct and all others are in error....RUN! RUN FAST!

You make a good point, Cliff. The trouble is that you won't get a response. The small group of pastors you are addressing are big fish in their own little puddles but won't risk the embarrassment of repeating their ridiculous claims publicly.
