Letter: St. Anne’s weekly Bingo could use sprucing up

I am a senior citizen and attend the St. Anne’s Bingo games every week. It is something to do to mingle and see friends.

There are a few problems that some of us feel can be corrected, at minor or no extra cost to the school. The main one is the heating and the cooling of the hall. It is often so cold inside this time of year that we put bags over our feet to stay warm. I realize that the workers don’t feel the cold because they are moving around. We don’t move! During the summertime it is often very hot inside, even with doors open. They really must get a system and take care of this problem.

The other problem is the snack bar. I know that it is a “snack bar” and not a restaurant, but the choices are few and not very healthy. If “cup of soups” such as Top Ramen were sold during the cold times and nice fruit cups or even ice cream bars at the hot times, it would make things better for all of us. Foot-long sandwiches from Subway cut into smaller ones could make a good profit for the school. Speaking for myself and some others, hot dogs, chili, nachos and taco salad get old after a while. I realize all is run by volunteers, but more organization could make for a much better time, and in the long run more money for the school.

Now that another Bingo hall has opened in Lodi, St. Anne’s may want to look into these problems a little closer and do some updating. It would also be nice to have two sets of game sheets. They could be alternated every other week. Bingo is good for the brain, but the brain needs to be challenged!

Susanne: In order to fix up the Bingo area, perhaps another collection during Sundays service would help. Also, be happy your Bingo earnings are not taxed.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
