Letter: Little signs show our economy is recovering

As the fall of the economy began a few years ago, I noticed a definite decline in the number of cars parked in the Tokay High School student parking lot. Where it was normally full and overflowing, there were numerous unused parking spaces in the lot. This seemed to worsen as the economy worsened, which did make sense as families were having to tighten their belts with less available money to spend.

Well, I’m glad to see the student parking lot is again full, which must be a sign of an improving economy. This may sound like a simplistic indicator, but it is an indicator. If this holds true, and I hope it will, I look forward to the continued growth of our city and its residents in a positive manner.

Bobbin, I don't take any perscription medications on a regular basis. I am healthy as they come and plan on sticking around to expose liberals for their communistic agenda for many, many years. Probably outive you. Liberals are so gullible.

Haven't you heard Mr. Baxter... " raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt"

Bobbin, how does it feel to fleece the taxpayers that are funding your insurance at 100% ?
You supported the liberal stooges that kept Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from being audited, stonewalling Bush's repeated request that it be done. They gave loans to people who they knew full well were unable to pay them and you blame Wall Street? Maxine Waters and Barney Fwank assured Congress that " all was well", well guess what. Republicans are so gullible.
P.S. As a matter of fact, i CAN afford my perscriptions at full retail.

Eric, by the way, I am not hoping all of my fellow Americans feel an economic squeeze, most already are feeling the effects of OFailures disastrous policies. Open your drapes and shed some light in your house, read and watch something else besides the liberal propaganda media. Not too difficult to find the actual statistics if you WANT to.

How does it feel that you actually believed George Walker Bush when he told you that we HAD to invade Afghanistan and Iraq and that it would ALL be PAID for?

How does it feel that you actually believed that the Medicare Part D that you enjoy so much was being PAID for? Bet YOU can afford all of your prescriptions at RETAIL, eh?

How does it feel that Wall Street led you to believe that all your properties were worth hundreds of thousands - AND THEN THEY WEREN'T?

Whaaaaa! Typical hypocritical right wing position, eh, Baxxter?

Eric, how does it feel to ignore REALITY and live in your little liberal fantasy world? Do you actually believe America can keep borrowing money and digging the debt hole deeper and deeper and survive? Why don’t you go borrow more money than you can possibly ever repay then let me know how that works out. Liberals are so gullible.

Eric, If stimulus spending and Keynesian economics works so well how do you explain the fact that Obama's budget was just defeated by the slim margin of 413-2?

Oh Joe Joe Joe you just keep hoping and wishing that the economy doesn't improve, in spite of all indicators saying it is. How does it feel to hope that all of your fellow Americans feel an economic squeeze so that you can cling to your failing ideology.

Poor Eric, ONE quarter does not a recovery make. The current GDP is back down under 3%. Straws, keep grasping at straws.

I only think it worked because the economy turned around, consumer confidence is up, retail sales are up, did you see that third quarter GDP growth at 4.1%. It just sucks when you forecast gloom and doom and everything keeps coming up roses. Not interested in Florida but I am looking for a place in Kentucky.

See Joe, no reason to discuss successful liberal programs with you. Your entrenched ideology does not even allow you to see what is there before you. You must reassure yourself that unemployment is higher than the papers state, that housing hasn't recovered all the way and that although the markets are up your sure they are inflated and will hopefully fall soon. It's sad that the only way for you to be happy is if the country hits the skids and all because you can't stand to watch liberals succeed.

Bobbin, Bush, Bush, Bush, that's all you liberals know is to blame EVERYTHING negative on Bush. Did he implement the "stimulus"? NO, it was Barry Boy. Maybe if he didn't use most of it for political "paybacks" and moronic investments, ala Solyndra, et al, it might have been more helpful.

You truly need to get your facts straight.

Clinton's administration changed the way unemployment is calculated. In 1994 the BLS changed the way unemployment was calculated. Methods were changed, renamed, and removed.

You should probably blame George Bush, then, Baxxter.

He's the one who came up with the stimulus to try to save himself after he tanked the economy. You do KNOW that BUSH is responsible to over half of the current deficit, right?

He should have put more money in the "arts" to support himself in retirement.

So, Baxxter, you are saying that Obama and his cronies in crime have CHANGED the way unemployment is calculated?

Another conservative farce. It's being counted the same way it's always been. The only difference is that the REAL perpetrators of the unemployment in this country are busy painting by number and growling about how they never tortured anyone.

But it's all OK, because conservatives just have to smack down their pat answer..."Gee, I thought GWB hasn't BEEN president for 5 years. What's he have to do with it?

Meanwhile, Boehner and McConnell mumble platitudes that their gullible followers gobble up like candy. They should be charged with treason for abandoning the jobs that they were "hired" to do and have just sat on their fat rear-ends for 5 years trying to "repeal" Obamacare and not a darn thing else.

    BS

If you are unemployed and haven't actively looked for a job in over four weeks, you are not counted in Obama's unemployment statistics. True unemployment figures are available, but the liberal sheep are too lazy to research and find them. They would rather rely on the liberal propaganda that paints a rosy picture. Liberals are so gullible.

Poor Eric, Keynesian economics has never worked for any length of time. The very formula assures failure. Like piling sand from the bottom of to the top, it all ends up on the bottom. I almost feel sorry for people who have swallowed the liberal propaganda that spews from the government agencies. Ever see the Wizard of Oz? Well now we are living in Oz and Barry Boy is the “wizard”. Employment is down? Why don’t you tell that to the millions of people who are unemployed and can’t find a job. Most out of work so long they have fallen off of the unemployed radar. Home prices are up, in some parts of the nation, but no where near what they were. The market is artificially inflated, hopefully you have hedged your bet before it crashes, and it will. Keep grabbing at straws to convince yourself all is well in America if it makes you feel better. The well informed know the truth.

Here we are Joe discussing another one; stimulus spending and Keynesian economics and how they, under the direction of the Liberal two term Democratic President Barrack Hussein Obama, stopped this country from going into a depression, brought unemployment down, sent the stock market along with millions of Americans retirements soaring and helped home prices recover (mine sure have). Your welcome Joe.

Eric Barrow, since Phil Hamilton is older than you are, I seriously doubt he is a high school student.
Still waiting for your comprehensive list of successful liberal programs you claim exists.

I see if one person, apparently a high school student, dares speak of anything positive happening the local obamaphobes are there to bring the hammer down. Any positive information rocks there preconceived notions of America in decline. Nothing but the discrediting of Obama's legitimacy or the collapse of the USA will satisfy these guys.

There ya have it folks, concrete proof America is in an economic boom period. Everyone is working, nobody is getting their homes repossessed, nobody is filing bankruptcy, no businesses are shutting down, welfare rolls are diminishing and the food stamp program enrollment is declining at a dizzying rate. Times are GREAT and all because there are more cars in our high school parking lot.

More cars in Tokay High`s parking lot can mean one of two thing. One, Dad got his job back, or mom got a job. Between the to they can afford to buy their son or daughter a good used car, or get the old one out of storage. With the price of gas on the way up, the young in the family will be limited to the amount of driving done, to school and home and no hanging out in the In and Out Burger`s parking lot. Life will go on, never the less. Perhaps the young can help their own cause, a job perhaps. [wink]

I agree Phil I also heard of plans for a new housing development in Lodi with 300 units coming. I am not a champion of the expansion of Lodi, I would like to see it remain small but this is a positive economic sign. I would encourage anyone who see positive economic signs to point them out we have had way too many years of negativity.
