This is an open letter to our congressman, Jerry McNerney.

As of Aug. 20, 2013, you have not given us the courtesy of a town hall meeting. According to your office, you do not have a meeting planned. Isn’t this recess for such meetings?

We have the Libya killings, NSA snooping on our every move, the IRS urinating on a number of people, and to top it off, Congress has exempted themselves from Obamacare. I am sure you want us to just “eat cake.” You owe us a visit, you carpet-baggin’ custard.

Bill Keller

I agree with the comments by Mr. Heuer. I submitted comments yesterday that some people seemed to be offended by and had mine removed. I know who you are, and Bobin for your information, the background was photoshopped. Mid-Life Crisis was over and done with 20 years ago, and I`m still smok`en. I believe yours is just starting, and makes me wonder if I will make the cut with this post. If not I could care less.

    Absolutely.

I have even seen letters in the Record from WVAF and they are nowhere near as offensive as those printed in the LNS. In fact, all address local issues and none address his obsession with abortion and homosexuality.

Either the Record is more discriminating or WVAF knows his audience here in Lodi eats up his holier than thou nonsense.

Especially offensive was his contention a couple of weeks ago that the "Royal Birth" was cause for joy, but a homosexual couple adopting a baby was (I'm interpreting here) such a disgusting and offensive event that NO ONE could possibly celebrate it.

Good comment, Mr. Heuer. You briefly put yourself in the shoes of others, which we should all do.

    Joanne:
You know the LNS has given tacit approval to label this President in the crudest of terms. It's almost as if they are requesting it. How this President is described on a continual basis by the few letter writers who are allowed to be published is completely disgusting, ill-mannered and in poor taste. Would the Sac Bee run letters like this?

The absolute blind hatred these people hold for President Obama is scary. Scary like if he should travel anywhere near-by, the SS would keep everyone in this town from leaving Lodi until he's gone.

Yellow vet driver? Photoshopped"? I hate it when the comment your replying to gets cut. You're kind of left hangin'.

The relationship of the title of this letter to the letter itself eludes me. But that is not important. I would like to know if Mr Keller is intentionally using his"open letter" to actually discourage a face-to-face meeting (town hall)? I mean if you send me an invitation to meet at your house and it ends with a "You owe us a visit, you carpet-baggin’ custard." I'm not sure I would feel I would be warmly received. I'm not sure I was going to experience a "meeting of the minds." I'm certain I would have second thoughts about coming for a dose of abuse from yelling, bullying tea party types.

You already paint me in a bad light by putting the words "I am sure you want us to just “eat cake.” " in my mouth. The words that went bad for those on the losing end of the French revolution. Isn't there something in your district you want to discuss or would I be simply a whipping boy for your perceived ills you list "... the Libya killings, NSA snooping on our every move, the IRS urinating on a number of people, and to top it off, Congress has exempted themselves from Obamacare." I guess you feel I, as being one of 435 members of the House will give you some kind of inside scoop not already over played in the 24/7 news medias. I could tell you I have the same concerns as you but then, you should know this and therefore, what the heck are we meeting for unless you have some local concerns we can work constructively on. There is a point to the saying you can get more using honey than vinegar. Thats if you want to seriously get together.

Except to the yellow Vet driver. (Photoshopped or Mid-Life Crisis?)

    Betting on the latter.

    Pobresito, Ed.

Give it up. The mentality of FOX viewers is 6th grade.

    Someone here personifies that profile.

    Guess Who?

And as a late-comer to this forum, you are WAAAAYYY behind.

From what I've read of Ed's post's, one can easily tell he is a Class A example of what "everyone" has. And to boot, he always sounds like he's quite high on his meds and barely comprehensible.

Don't read my posts if you can't understand them, Ed.

After all, since the average reading comprehension level in the US is 8th grade, it is easy to see exactly WHO fits that demographic.

OK Eric you bring up a good point. However if Bill had left off custard he also has some very valid points, and I agree.[beam]

Ed how exactly would I know if I don't like the letter until I read it? As far as giping it seems that Bill's doing most of the complaining.

"attempting to get back in touch with those who voted for them in the first place" does not necessarily mean a town hall meeting.

Robert: if you want an up to date as to what a carpetbagger is, as Rodham Clinton. Also saw a pic of Jerry playing basket ball with the Lodi Fire Department in shorts, it showed he doesn`t get out much, at least in shorts, he`s is one white cracker. If Travyon Martin can use the term, anyone should be allowed to. Still waiting from the White House along with Al and Jessie about the murder of that white guy. Man up you bums.

Considering that Congress's approval ratings are in the tank, I would think that most of them would take advantage of these recesses by at least attempting to get back in touch with those who voted for them in the first place.

On the other hand, McNerney might very well feel that his position is secure (at least through 2014) and that any attempt by those who oppose him to ask direct questions might prove problematic. Indeed, I wouldn't be at all surprised if many took vacations outside the United States for that very reason.

WTF is a carpet baggin custard? I know what the carpetbaggers were from 1866-1877, and the modern meaning after 1900. But custard and carpetbaggin in the same phrase? I think I'm gonna be sick, and I can tell the grossest jokes. Mr.Keller, be careful of your descriptions. People of different backgrounds see things differently from one another.

" Isn’t this recess for such meetings?"

not necessarily... it's one of many reasons for the recess.

not to mention that the questions beg... does mr. keller know what a carpetbagger is? how does he conclude that mr. mcnerney is a carpetbagger?

oh, yeah, and as to the rest of his last paragraph: misrepresentation of facts, hyperbole, factually inaccurate vulgar hyperbole, and lies. oh, and don't forget the empty platitude.

While Mr. Whoever wrote this letter may have a point about the lack of townhall meetings with Jerry McNerny, my question is for the Lodi News Sentinel.

Why are YOU allowing such disgusting language to be used here?

Don't you have an editorial policy that covers Letters to the Editor, just like the one that covers comments in this forum?

And please, don't pretend that "carpet baggin custard" is an innocent euphemism.
