Letter: Rate increases will happen because there will be no opposition

Like I have said in the past, citizens having a chance to shoot down rate increases will only happen when pigs fly. As I have said before, to get more than 50 percent of the people in Lodi to send in a letter of opposition to the City Clerk will just not happen.

It seems anything concerning residents of Lodi is tied to state government regulation. Therefore, the city council has no choice but to charge the rate increases, whether needed or not. It is not our fault, it’s the State of California. Sometime it is hard to find the nut in this shell game.

So, folks, get ready for a 3-percent increase every year in your water rates for the next four years, and a 3-percent increase in wastewater per year for the next four years also. Save your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

These rate increases will be implemented in order to pay for Lodi's new surface water treatment plant.
This plant is costing city rate payers some about five million dollars a year for the next forty years. It will produce about six thousand acre feet heavily chlorinated but safe to drink water annually. This is a bad deal for city rate payers in my view.
I would like to be proven wrong about the TOTAL cost of this project . Anyone?
