Monday edition of the News-Sentinel will be missed
I was sorry to read about the decision to stop the Monday issue of the Lodi News-Sentinel. I look forward to reading the morning paper and having a cup of coffee to start my day. I had gotten used to not having a Sunday paper by subscribing to the Sunday Bee, but now the loss of a Monday paper leaves me up in the air. I mostly agree with the editorial policy and content of the LNS and keeping up on the local events and news. I enjoy reading it.
I really can't afford to subscribe to another weekly paper, and nobody delivers just a Monday. I'm afraid my choices lie between canceling my subscription to your newspaper and going to another — which I don't want to do — or going without a Monday paper — which I also don't want to do.
You stated that about 80 percent of your revenue comes from advertising, so it probably won't help to raise the subscription rate to me, and your merchants would not like it either in this economy.
The other thing that causes me concern is the future of the LNS. I was in Sacramento when the Union ceased publication, and they went through much of the same decision making — changing format, stopping certain days of delivery. It also happened to a paper that I subscribed to in Phoenix, and the same symptoms were there also. I hope it's not me.
I hope you find a way to reverse this decision. It would be a shame not to receive the LNS.

Mr. Sugden, I feel helpless but touched by your distress. If you turn on your computer or undertake the expense of an electronic tablet (iPad or Droid reader) you'll see that we update Lodinews.com nearly daily on the weekends already. Look for the News-Sentinel's new mobile edition soon. We're also adding a minute-by-minute feed from the Associated Press to our homepage.
Thanks for being one of those informed citizens with a daily news habit.
