I have heard some interesting feedback about building a sports complex in Lodi. OK, a bicycle velodrome was pie in the sky thinking! Think big and then work down to what is realistic, right?

It has been pointed out to me that acquiring the land from Turner Road to Pine Street on Stockton and Sacramento streets would be very expensive.

On the positive side, people have talked to me about softball fields, soccer fields and swimming pools. It has been suggested that the city of Lodi and private interests should look into the land behind Food-4-Less on Lower Sacramento Road. Another suggestion was the vacant land in the industrial area adjacent to Kettleman Lane and Beckman Road. These would be convenient for those staying in nearby hotels. Those who did talk about a swimming pool still liked the idea of an Olympic venue next to the parking structure on Pine Street.

Keep the discussion going within your sport and with city officials. Also talk to private interests who would benefit, such as hotel owners, restaurants and wineries.

A vocal minority always say, "It can't be done in Lodi." Fortunately for Lodi, the local wine industry never listened to this negative way of thinking! We can do this!
