Last week, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the transgender bill A.B. 1266 — which was endorsed and supported by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco — into law.

I am irritated and frustrated with our Gov. Jerry Brown over the importance and responsibility to protect our children. This bill has torn through the very fabric of many teachings based upon personal or religious beliefs. Gov. Jerry Brown’s signature on this bill does not represent an important victory, but a blow to all spiritual families and many California citizens, not to mention that it compromises the privacy and rights of students throughout California.

This recent action by Gov. Jerry Brown and Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, has forced me to re-examine sending my child to public school. It is not the government’s concern to teach my child ethics and morals. This latest decision has deliberately offended my religious upbringing and beliefs on how to raise my child, and forces them to tolerate and be exposed to unpleasant situations.

Due to this recent unnerving A.B. 1266 passing, I will be contacting my elected officials to gain support for a bill that will give special exempt status or tax breaks for all families who send their children to private schools, to help offset the cost of private schools and protect our children from harm.

I am greatly concerned when our elected officials refuse to see the obvious and use common sense.
