The $500 fines against water users are being levied against the wrong people. Those who have run our state since 1970 are the ones who should be fined. The citizens of Sacramento didn’t create this problem.

In 1970, our state population was 20 million, and now it is around 40 million. We obviously need more water now with twice the population. Again those who run our state ignored the problem.

1970 was the last time anything was done to store water in the years when it was plentiful. Any thought of new dams or pumping underground, which was stopped by environmentalists and other do-gooders who didn’t want to spend the necessary funds to solve this problem? I wonder how the environmentalists feel now when they look at millions of acres that are brown and dusty when they used to look so green with food being grown?

Isn’t it time for common sense to take over by people running our state government. But why do we keep electing the same people? The fault lies with our state assembly and leaders during the last 40 years.

So I take it from your references to D Smith and Chun Mei you reside in the Galt area? How interesting.

If any agency were serious about water conservation, landscape watering would be banned except with reclaimed water. New lawns would be outlawed and native plants (we do live in a desert) with low water needs would be allowed.

    "folks like"

Steve, the "NE Galt resident" you speak of...

His lawn is lush and green.

    I'm not implying anything.

He's only using his fair share as allowed by city ordinance.

That may be subject to change though????

The idea that a prolonged drougb requires conservation is a no brainer. If $500 fines aren't enough to convince folks like Mr Smith to reduce their consumption perhaps the fines should be kicked up to $1000.
