Letter: Trophy hunters are cowards

In response to the letter to the editor titled “How is killing innocent animals conservation?” by Francis Haley on the Sept. 19 Opinion page, I, too, am very appalled.

These kinds of people who hunt animals for trophies are nothing more than cowards. They hide in bushes with high-powered rifles in order to fulfill their dream of killing some innocent animal to stuff and put in their living room. In my opinion, these people are nothing more than cowards who are shooting at an animal that has no recourse to defend itself.

I have been trying to email Mr. Bruce’s website to tell him what I think of his cowardly acts, but so far have had no response.

So, as long as someone else does the killing and it ends up nicely packaged on a supermarket shelf that's ok? But those who hunt for sport and DO use the remains for food or other purposes are being "unfair?" No, I don't think so. Where I agree are those who hunt but then simply discard the remains and then hang the head in their den. But still, as long as they hunt during season and according to the law I see no problem with that at all.

If you want a trophy, the best place to look is the centerfold in Playboy. Where as an animal is either stuffed of hung on a wall, can`t go clubing with an elk. [wink]

Now a days hunters use a scope that can define the craters on the moon, along with a rife that can blow a hole in a tank. Fair, I don`t think so, though nothing was ever suppose to be fair. If a hunter is worth his salt he should use a bolt action single shot rifle with a peep site. To take out an animal for sport is total BS. let alone putting his head on the wall. If you want a trophy, get a good looking wife. And BTW, I do all my hunting at Safeway, at least these animals were never in the wild and were fed right up to the time the axe fell.[sad]
